From the moment COILER plugs in and turns up, you can practically hear blood, sweat, and tears seeping out of the speakers…

Born and raised in the rolling hills and jagged limestone quarries of Indiana, Ike Davis owns the stage as the guitarist and vocalist of the duo. The band brings its own interpretation of classic two-piece garage rock blues rooted in gritty riffs and boosted by impactful drums that punch you in the face.

“When people listen to the music, I want them to think ‘Man, that hits me right in the chest’,” proclaims Ike. “We don’t ever worry about making it sound perfect. Instead, we try to preserve the imperfections and nuances. I tend to stay quiet and keep to myself in everyday life, but this music is a way for me to really let loose and show the world the energy and passion that I can put out there. Regardless of the messages of the songs I write, I want people to get up and seriously feel it.”

Ike grew up in the small town of Mitchell, IN with his parents and younger brother. Dad played guitar as a hobby, introducing the boys to the music of Collective Soul, The White Stripes, The Black Keys, and Black Pistol Fire, among others. He spent as much time as possible honing his chops as a guitarist and songwriter. Joined by his old man and brother Jack on drums, an early iteration of the group tore up stages at local shows and shined in “Battle of the Bands” competitions. By day, Ike held down a job at a limestone mill in Bedford, IN—known as the “Limestone Capital of the World.” He grinded (literally) in order to get his own place, amass equipment, and record. “It’s not wrong to say, ‘Our rock music came from the rocks’,” he laughs.

As if pulling a naturally jagged sound out of the earth itself, Ike incited buzz for COILER online. A series of Instagram videos gained traction, catching the attention of producer Jim Kaufman [Everclear, Helmet, Return To Dust]. He invited Ike to Los Angeles in order to record, cementing a creative partnership in the process.

“Jim’s wisdom and experience are invaluable assets,” he notes. “It’s great to have an ear who knows what to listen for. He’s the right guy to either tell me no or reinforce my ideas and give me confidence. At this point, it’s already like we’re family.”

COILER kickstarts the next chapter with the single “Rattle” helmed by Kaufman behind the board. “It felt like the perfect introduction, because the guitar, drums, and vocals really bounce off each other so seamlessly,” he notes. “It also encapsulates the general sound of the band. ‘Rattle’ is definitely a good way to get to know us.”

In the end, it’s easy to feel what COILER is doing, because it’s real.

“I write music so I can play it live for people,” he leaves off. “During shows, I’m never stationary. I’m always moving. If we’re doing this right, the riffs will get stuck in your head and you’ll practically feel the sweat coming off the stage.”
